Come to the southern area of Rome province in Latium to visit the cliff town of Nemi overlooking a beautiful lake of the same name! There are lots of interesting places to visit in Nemi such as the 10th century Palazzo Ruspoli, the ruins of the Temple of Diana Nemorense and the Museum of Roman Ships. But probably most fascinating of all here in Nemi is the communal fountain where sparkling water springs up into the air! It’s pumped from the nearby Lake Nemi, which is a slightly sparkling volcanic lake.
Be sure to taste the delicious small wild strawberries which grow in the rich volcanic soil around Nemi. They are used in many local desserts such as a rich custard tart with these little sweet fruits decorating the top. A strawberry festival is hosted here in Nemi to celebrate this sweet little fruit on the first Sunday of June each year. Witness the streets of Nemi decorated with colourful flowers and stalls set up selling them and desserts made with them.
