Rome at Night
With over 3,000 years of history behind her, Rome is bound to have a complicated past, often with dark and gory moments. It seems likely, then, that if anywhere in the world might be populated by ghosts, Rome would be a strong candidate. Certainly, there are countless tales of ghost, grisly accidents, murder, magic and horror that take place in the Eternal City. Due to this ghostly heritage, there are also plenty of ghost tours of Rome, should you be interested in seeing the city in a different (or less) light. Just find a vacation rental in Rome and choose one of the following tours to learn all about the ghosts that forever haunt the Eternal City.
Castel Sant'Angelo
One of the most popular and well-received ghost tours in Rome is the Rome Ghost and Mystery Night Walking Tour, sometimes referred to as the Dark Heart of Rome Tour. Taking only groups of around twenty people, it offers an intimate and engaging experience where you become actively involved in the stories being told. The tours take place after the sun has set at 8 and 9:15 PM on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and last an hour and a half. The tours take in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Farnese, Via Giulia, Via del Governo Vecchio and the exterior of Castel Sant’Angelo.
St Peter's, Rome
You’ll see the house of Rome's most notorious murderer, the bridge haunted by the ghost of the female Pope and learn about a time when the city burned heretics like spit roast pigs and cured its crime problems by hanging pictures of the Virgin Mary on every corner.

If you're a fan of Dan Brown's “Angels and Demons”, there is also a specific guided tour, The Official Angels and Demons Tour, which will guide you through the history of occultism in Rome. This tour takes place during the day, beginning at 9:30 AM (Sunday, Tuesday and Friday) and lasts four hours with bus transfers included in the €56.00 price tag.

Again, numbers are limited, this time to 25 people maximum. Beginning at Piazza del Popolo, it stops at the church of Santa Maria del Popolo, St. Peter's Square, the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’Angelo and the exterior of “Il Passetto”, following the history of the Illuminati around Rome.

Both tours take you to some of the most important sights in the city but lend a different perspective on these well-tread tourist destinations and offer a unique way of seeing Rome.
