When most people think of a holiday in Italy, it invariably conjures up images of eating good food, drinking good wine, taking in art and culture, strolling through medieval towns, piazzas, boutique shopping districts, enjoying the beautiful landscapes and luxuriating by the sea. These images tend to be of relaxation, of peaceful holidays of the romantic or familial variety. However, the country has much more to offer than clichés – no matter how appealing! Enjoy the things that Italy is famous for but have an adventure too! There are fantastic sites for zip-lining in the country so why not find a luxury villa in Italy and spend a day soaring through the air?

In Basilicata, in the South, is the famous “Flight of the Angel”. This zip-line sees participants hanging parallel to the line and facing forward, giving the sense of flying through the air like an angel, lending the nickname. The line stretches across a valley between the two picturesque villages of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano which are perched on opposite sides. It is one of the highest, fastest and longest zip-wires in the world, with participants travelling at a top speed of 120km/h / 70mph. Situated in the Lucanian Dolomites, the surrounding landscape is largely unspoilt and set within a natural park, the Parco Naturale di Gallipoli Cognato e delle Dolomiti Lucane. The views, therefore, rival the thrill of the speed this particular line offers.

The Cerwood Adventure Park in the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Appenines in Emilia-Romagna is a somewhat more family-friendly option. The wires zip from tree to tree between 100 year old beech trees, taking in the majestic surroundings. With fifteen courses and six practice runs and four courses for children specifically, there are varying degrees of difficulty and challenge for people of all ages, ability and courage.
In San Viglio di Marebbe in the Dolomites, is the biggest line in Europe. 100 metres high and winding through the lush mountains, it also combines beauty and thrills.
Stretched over a distance of 1200 metres with a drop of 400 metres and speeds up to 80 km/h, it is another example of an Italian zip-line that is bound to get your heart thumping and the adrenaline pumping.
These are just some of the zip-line experiences that Italy has to offer so, if you're an adventure-seeker who thinks that a holiday in the country seems too tame, think again!
