Headland in the Cilento area
Located in the southern coastal region of Campania is the scenic Cilento area and Vallo di Diano National Park. In 1998, it was awarded as a UNESCO World Heritage Site to protect its rich natural beauty from the wrath of mass tourism and large scale building projects in the area. Stay in a stunning vacation rental in Campania where you can easily explore the treasures of this region under the hot Italian sun!

Within this vast protected area lie numerous archaeological sites including Paestum, Velia and the Certosa di Padula. Much of this coastal area’s historical evolution can be relived in great detail thanks to the many monuments and documentation left behind.
Temples of Paestum
The Cilento district was a major trading route in the Mediterranean and once bordered with Etruscan and Greek colonies. This is the main reason behind the extravagant artistic, architectural and historical influences in the temples, city ruins and villas that remain to be seen today.

Three major cities that once thrived here, called Paestum, Velia and Padula have provided archaeologists and historians with a wealth of information about what life was like here, right through from pre-historic times to the Middle Ages. Vast areas of building foundations are just waiting to be excavated from beneath the earth.

Tourists would adore a few days of being guided through the extensive collection of monumental and artefact remains that tell a vivid history of the busy Mediterranean trading point the Cilento area was during this time.
View of Vallo di Diano
This UNESCO World Heritage Site extends to include the beautiful Vallo di Diano and is without a doubt, one of the greatest national parks in all of Italy! Explore the Roman and Greek temples that dot the land. Go for long peaceful walks through the green forests and learn the great history of this southern part of Italy.

Make your plans to travel to Campania on your next Italian vacation and experience the cultural holiday of a lifetime!
