A must see attraction when you’re holidaying in Campania is the stunning Aragonese Castle on Ischia Island off the coast of Naples!

Ischia Island, which was formed from a volcanic eruption, was chosen as the site upon which a spectacular castle would be built by the Parthenopeans, a civilisation of Naples.

Choose from a range of vacation villas in Campania, some of which have stunning views of the coastline!

Hiero I of Syracuse oversaw its construction in 474BC but it was later captured and ruled by the Romans before being claimed back by the Parthenopeans once again. It was once home to over 2000 families as they were protected there against pirates and other enemies!

Aragonese Castle was eventually bought by a private owner in 1912 but it’s still open to the public every day from 9am to sunset. The tour around it all is only €10 and it’s also pet friendly. As well as the castle there are some beautiful churches and buildings to explore on Ischia Island and tourists can relax in one of two cafes here and buy souvenirs in a bookshop.
