Begin your day of touring by heading deep into the medieval centre of Sanremo, called La Pigna. This is a pedestrian only area so tourists can walk around at ease admiring the old buildings and browsing around the charming stalls selling local foods and crafts.
Climb up the short distance to the spectacular gardens of Queen Elena that stand over La Pigna and breathe in the fresh salty air of the sea. The rainbow of colour and beauty that exists in these gardens is truly a wonderful sight to behold!
The peaceful Madonna della Costa Sanctuary is up here too, close to the gardens and is certainly worth a visit.
Admire the elegant architecture and fine art paintings and monuments it houses inside. Also worth a visit is the Russian Orthodox Church that was built here in 1913 to accommodate the many Russian who enjoyed holidaying here during the winter months. Its stunning architecture is almost an exact replica of the San Basilio church in Moscow!
