Visit Miramar castle which is situated less than eight kilometres from the city. Located right beside the sea, this picturesque setting is surrounded by colourful gardens on one side with two decorative ponds filled with swans and lotus flowers and the other side with the calm rippling waters of the sea. In the afternoon, an exploration of the St. Justus cathedral which dates back to 1320 and is beautifully decorated with Byzantine mosaics would be a wonderful way to pass an hour or so. Afterwards, why not visit the modern designed Temple of Monte Corsa which overlooks the sea from high up, on the edge of the Karst Plateau. This unusual shrine to the Holy Mary is a place to be seen to be believed!
Also worth a tourist trip is the second biggest synagogue in Europe right here in Trieste. Built in 1912, this Jewish house of worship has a huge magnificent dome and gigantic supporting pillars as its central focal point and is a must-see attraction on your tour of Trieste!

There are lots of caves in the area surrounding Trieste. Be sure to book a tour around Grotta Gigante which is the largest tourist cave in the world! There’s a single cavity in this cave which is large enough to comfortably hold the massive size of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome!
