Stay For A Few Days In The Beautiful City Of Ferrara!

Ferrara's Castello Estense
The gorgeous city of Ferrara in the region of Emilia Romagna in northern Italy is a wonderful destination to base your Italian holiday! Its beauty and rich cultural heritage has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site award, which means it’s an ideal tourist location to visit.

Visitors wishing to tour around the area have a lovely selection of villas in Emilia Romagna to choose from, all within a reasonable distance from Ferrara.

The city is surrounded by over nine kilometres of ancient Renaissance walls! Like the walled city of Lucca, these monuments of history are among the best preserved Renaissance walls in Italy. Why not spend a few hours walking around the perimeter and admiring this great feat in decorative and protective architecture? Anywhere along the wall could be the perfect place to set up a picnic lunch to savour as you watch the world go by.
Ferrara cathedral
As you head into the town centre, you’ll be met with the magnificent sight of a huge well preserved fortress called Castello Estense. This castle is surrounded by a real moat and has four majestic bastions towering up within the structure. The views from the roof of this ancient building are spectacular. Also, be sure to explore the exterior and interior architecture of Ferrara’s cathedral.

Many skilled hands carefully carved the stone of this building into the masterpiece it is today. There are so many spectacular religious buildings, museums and other places in Ferrara city, you would need a few days at least to get around them all!
Piazza Ariostea
Take a break from your touring to sit down to a nice cup of Italian coffee in Piazza Ariostea. This is a gorgeous lawn square with winding paths running through it with pretty monuments and features. It’s the perfect place to come and relax in after a few hours of adventurous exploration!

If you’re lucky enough to be passing through Ferrara in the month of September, you can experience the glorious sight of the ten day ‘Hot Air Balloons Festival’! Ferrara is considered to be Italy’s capital of hot air balloons and this event has grown enormously in popularity among visitors in recent years.

Another great event in Ferrara's calender is the Palio of St. George which takes place on the last Sunday of May each year. It’s the oldest racing palio in the world and is a source of great entertainment for those who witness it!

A long established Jewish community exists in Ferrara city and has been a wonderful influence on the Italian cuisine of the area. Try an Italian pasta dish with a Jewish twist called Cappellacci di Zucca. This is ravioli stuffed with a seasoned butternut squash filling and is absolutely delicious with a shaving of parmesan cheese and a glass of crisp white wine to accompany it!

Ferrara has so much to offer tourists, there’s something here to suit every taste so why not make your plans today to include it as a place to visit on your next Italian vacation!
