Designed by Giuseppe Mengoni in 1861, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele took twelve years to build and is a spectacular sight to behold. The shopping centre consists of two glass roofed arcades that intersect in an octagonal shape, connecting Piazza della Scala with Piazza del Duomo.
The design resonates with other magnificent gallerias built in London, Brussels and Budapest. The central octagonal ‘Piazza’ is topped off by an incredible glass dome that set the precedent for future shopping mall designs as elaborate as this.
