Visit Montefiascone which is situated on the south-east side of Lake Bolsena on top of a forested hill. See the lovely cathedral here designed by the famous Venetian architect, Michele Sanmicheli. The old ruins of a previous papal summer residence called Rocca dei Papi is also here. It has been greatly restored and offers breath-taking views of the lake.
Stop off for a bite to eat in the small fishing town of Marta on the southern shores of Lake Bolsena. Enjoy taking a few nice photos at the busy town of Capodimonte with its quaint little harbour or exploring the ancient churches and palaces of Valentano. Be sure to visit the excellent museum of the prehistory of Tuscia and of the Rocca Farnese in which it is located. Tuscia was an ancient region of Italy ruled by the Etruscans that included a large part of Umbria, northern Latium and all of Tuscany.
