Set in Rome , ‘The Great Beauty’ was co-written and directed by Paolo Sorrentino and released in 2013. It was an instant hit all over the world, winning countless awards for its ‘fresh’ perspective of life and its purpose. It won the ‘Best Foreign Language’ film at the 80th Academy Awards as well as a handful of golden globes and BAFTAs.

The plot follows a 65 year old socialite called Jep Gambardella, played by Toni Servillo. As he continues to party like his younger self, he begins to ponder over his unfulfilled life. He wrote a successful novel in his twenties and knows he achieved little else since then worth caring about.

Walk around the interior of Il Tempietto di Bramonte and the small commemorative tomb in its inner courtyard, built on what’s believed to be the crucifixion site of St. Peter.

One of the early scenes in the film is set at Fontana dell’ Acqua Paola which is regarded as one of the most elaborate fountains in Rome and would be a wonderful spot to end your wonderful tour of the city as inspired by ‘La Grande Belezza’.
