Perfect Spring Holiday Destinations In Italy

Italy probably conjures images of long, hot summers, frolicking on perfect beaches, eating gelato, hanging out in vineyards and exploring historic and cultural gems among large crowds. Meanwhile, travel in March, April and May can offer milder weather conditions, a calmer pace and lower costs, so maybe consider booking your next holiday for Spring.

Cities

Cities are especially good Spring travel destinations. If you find a  vacation rental in Venice, for example, it can still be cold at night in March and April. However, Spring transforms the city into a sunny beauty with wisteria spilling over from hidden walled gardens and crowds are almost non-existent. In May, things heat up comfortably, the air remains fresh and tourist services become fully operational sans excessive crowds. While Rome is always relatively busy, it is a lot calmer but expect to line up for the Colosseum for at least an hour, no matter the time of year. Lakes

The big two, the lakes of Como and Garda, are incredibly popular tourist areas and destinations. Both are flocked to in droves during the summer months but are equally lovely in Spring. The weather can be a little unpredictable between March and early May but if you're not too worried about getting a tan, you'll probably be happy enough. Just be ready for all eventualities! Once it gets into May, however, you can largely expect blue skies and an incredibly pleasant temperature. You can also expect some things to be closed but you'll encounter much smaller crowds. In addition, you'll be met with a wall of colours and fragrances as azaleas and rhododendrons tumble from the gardens of ancient villas and houses all over.

The Coast

When it comes to Spring travel destinations, the coast also makes for an excellent option. Come discover a vacation rental in Cinque Terre where, during March, April and May, the crowds are much smaller and the weather is pleasant, if changeable. This area is incredibly colourful and picturesque and made up of lovely little villages built along the cliff-sides. A National Park that is dotted with great walking trails, coming and exploring during the Spring means you'll be able to comfortably explore the whole area without sweating or squeezing through throngs of people. The locals will have plenty of time for tourists and the whole area will be even prettier and alive with plants.
