The name Torre dell'Orso is deeply rooted in history. It derives from the ancient coastal tower that has dominated this stretch of sea since the 16th century, once a lookout point against offshore incursions and today a silent symbol of a territory that has endured through the centuries without losing its identity. The origin of the term "Orso" remains shrouded in mystery and fuels fascinating tales: some connect it to the monk seal, once a resident of these waters, others to the surname Urso, the ancient owner of the land, others recognize an animal profile in the rocks, or associate it with Saint Ursula. Many hypotheses, no certainty, but all contribute to the timeless charm of the place.

Torre dell’Orso is instantly recognizable by the Two Sisters, two sea stacks that rise from the sea with natural elegance, shrouded in intense and melancholic legend. At their feet lies a bay approximately 800 meters long, nestled between golden cliffs and a lush pine forest that smells of resin and salt. Here, the light changes throughout the day, creating turquoise reflections in the morning and deeper hues at sunset.
Located approximately 28 km from Lecce, Torre dell’Orso is part of the renowned marinas of Melendugno, along with San Foca, Roca, Sant’Andrea, and Torre Specchia Ruggeri. This stretch of coast is appreciated for its extraordinary variety of landscapes: sandy beaches, rocky stretches sculpted by the wind, and waters that remain clear even when the sea is slightly rough.
In addition to the private beach areas, there are also stretches of free beach, while the pine forest behind them offers a natural refuge during the hottest hours, its silence interrupted only by the rustling of pine needles and the chirping of cicadas.

One of the most appreciated aspects of Torre dell’Orso is the shape of the bay, which guarantees good protection from the winds. On days with a sirocco or libeccio wind, the sea transforms into a calm mirror, with shades ranging from emerald green to deep blue, offering ideal conditions for swimming, relaxing, or simply being enchanted by the landscape.
