Do yourself a favor by staying here on your next visit to Morbegno. From the wood ceilings to the blue tile in the bathroom, this place is a gem. The building was built in the 1400s and retains its charm, while being completely modern.
It isn't clean, it's CLEAN. And then some.
The couple who own it are friendly and attentive, but not intrusive.
The neighborhood is so picture-perfect authentic that it almost felt artificial. Think Disney World Italyland. But then you notice the kids on their way to school, the shopkeepers and business people on their way to work, and you realize that they can't all be cast members.
The neighborhood has a very safe feel to it. We saw women walking alone and unbothered between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm.
There are probably a dozen or more places to eat within a 10 minute walk.
A couple of caveats:
It's on floor 2 (American 3rd Floor) and there is no lift/elevator so a person who requires a wheelchair is very likely unable to access the unit. My spouse uses a cane and didn't have any difficulty.
Automobiles aren't permitted in the area and the nearest 24 hour free parking lot is about an 8 minute walk. There are additional free options a little farther away.
The hosts also operate a pub on the ground floor. That sounds like it could be a problem, but it isn't- at least it wasn’t for us. It attracts a friendly clientele, not a rowdy one. The apartment has heavy, old-style shutters and modern insulated windows so we never heard a peep. They also serve great pub grub. Try the Valtellina Burger.
We would definitely stay there again.
