Venice is a city steeped in fascinating history but sometimes all that history can be overwhelming or unending and you need a little bit of a break from it or to absorb it in a different way. It's easier to learn or take in information if it's in a fun way, which is why it might be a good idea to do the ghost tour of Venice, rather than a regular guided tour. Taking place at night and on foot, it's a fantastic way to get a real feel of the layout and atmosphere of the city while learning and being thrilled at the same time!

A temporary bridge is constructed in Venice each year in July. This tradition goes back to the sixteenth century and is part of the Festa del Redentore, or Festival of the Redeemer. The bridge is built over the Giudecca Canal allowing access to the Church of the Redentore. This takes place on the third Saturday of July when there is a great party with feasting followed by fireworks and religious celebrations held on the Sunday with a gondola regata finishing off the weekend. Carnival, which takes place in February, is an event that is largely recreated for tourists but the Festa del Redentore is still an authentically local event and is very important to the people of Venice. Why not find a holiday rental in Venice and see it all for yourself?

Venice is a spectacular city built within a lagoon on the coast of Veneto. Nicknamed ‘The Floating City’, Venice is built across 118 small islands, many of which are so close together; they’ve been connected by bridges. Come and stay in a superb vacation rental near Venice and sail around this marine city for yourself!

Contrary to popular belief, the many buildings of Venice are not built directly on these islands but rather on wooden platforms supported by wooden stakes hammered into the ground and the seabed around the island shores.
