Stone Tuscan Country Homes/Farmhouses
One of the more numerous types, these incredibly charming properties can be found dotted all throughout the lush and lovely Tuscan countryside. With stone walls, a terracotta roof, usually shuttered windows, often a porch, and regularly a pool and pretty garden, they are the perfect type of country house to escape to! Some are newer builds evoking this regional style but many are historic properties that have been adapted throughout the centuries. Trulli
Heading to the southern region of Apulia, meanwhile, there is another kind of traditional structure that we have plenty of on our website: trulli. These fairytale-like and distinctive stone houses with conical roofs are dotted throughout the UNESCO-awarded historic centre of Alberobello as well as in some other towns and areas in the region. Built without mortar by carefully stacking limestone blocks to form sturdy walls and finishing them off with their unique roofs with a technique that sees outer layers of stones stacked to curve inward and overlap, they are a feat of engineering as well as whimsical. The type of building dates back to at least the 14th century, though our listings may not be quite as old and have all of the mod-cons you could need! Castles
Castles - as in, “look like they were plucked from the pages of a storybook castles” - are also among our listings. There are fewer of these types of properties and they are not specific to one region but do present a rather romantic option for a group looking to get away together.
