Many people, after spending more time at home in recent years, have become ever more interested in their surroundings and interiors, in general. While we might be a little biased, we think that Italian interiors are especially charming and inspiring so, whether you are looking for some ideas while thinking about redecorating your own home or you simply want to switch up your surroundings for a little while, our villas in Italy are just the thing. Experience la dolce vita and some of the most stunning interiors during a stay with Italy Villas as some of our properties have even been featured in interiors magazines, television shows, books, and more!

If you are not yet familiar with the kinds of features that you can expect, here is a handy guide to Italian homes and the chic sorts of styling and interiors that you can look froward to during a stay in one of our vacation rentals in Italy:

Villa Marina

1. Terracotta Floors

Hard-wearing, cooling, and timeless, terracotta floor tiles are very common all throughout a lot of properties in Italy. Many homes do not have air-conditioning in Italy so the terracotta tiles that look so good in Italian houses are also incredibly practical during the hot summer months when lots of people come to vacation.

2. Exposed Beams and Stone Walls

This is another charming and commonplace feature of Italian homes, particularly countryside villas and farmhouses. Drawing the eye up, they help rooms feel even more spacious and add a cosy touch to spaces. Exposed stone walls, meanwhile keep homes cool and look incredibly charming.

3. Window Shutters

Like the terracotta floors of Italian villas, the exterior window shutters found on the outside of many properties are both a delight to the eyes – often painted brightly and adding a pop of colour to a home – and practical. They can help protect houses from weather extremes, particularly aiding in beating the heat during the summer months as they can be closed to block too much light from streaming in and heating up a space.

4. Vaulted Ceilings

As with the exposed beams, the rustic charm of vaulted ceilings is a serious delight and makes you feel as though you definitely are in Italy! Again, they help make rooms feel more spacious and add some incredible visual interest to a space.

5. Frescoes and Painted Decorations

Frescoes might be more closely associated with churches but many historic properties and even some newer homes feature delightful frescoes or painted designs on walls and ceilings. If you are lucky enough to rent one of our villas in Italy with frescoes, you will be able to get up close and personal and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Italy on a daily basis adding serious whimsy and delight to a vacation!

Villa Cristina

6. Massive Fireplaces

Even if you don’t have reason to use them (one is unlikely to light a fire while on holidays in Italy in the summer, for example), many Italian homes, especially historic properties will feature giant fireplaces. Where the cooking used to take place and the main way in which homes used to be heated, these features were once far more practical in nature but now are more of a charming remnant of the past that can be appreciated and enjoyed.

7. A Mixture Of Old and New

One other common feature that we often see in both our old and our new villas in Italy is that there is an expert mixing of old and new. Italians are especially adept at perfectly blending antiques with more contemporary furnishings as well as the necessary mod-cons, making Italian homes both practical and incredibly aesthetically pleasing places in which to spend time.
