A popular tourist destination in Sardinia, Budoni is made up of a stretch of coastline, town, and some 22 little villages. The settlement traces its origins all the way back to the Neolithic period and boasts ancient stone tombs at Domus de Janas as well as the kinds of nuragic formations for which Sardinia is famous that can be found in the town of Torpè nearby. Other nuragic structures in the area that are worth visiting include the look-out tower of Su Entosu and the Conca and Bentu Nuraghe. Furthermore, there are Roman remains, some gorgeous Romanesque churches, and charming medieval villages to be explored in the surrounding area. The old town of Budoni is not merely rooted in the past, however, and is actually a lively place with a bustling nightlife, nightclubs, bars, restaurants, and more. Traditions such as the excitement and music and celebrations of the Feast of the Assumption also add to the character and flavour of the town. Typical local products and dishes such as seadas (honey and cheese pastries that are deep-fried and served as a sweet and savoury dessert) or porceddu (a simple but delicious and hearty suckling pig dish) are unmissable when you’re enjoying the delights of this part of the world.

Of course, the beaches do remain the main highlight in and around Budoni. Often described as a string of pearls along the coastline, the largest of these pearls and the crowning glory is Budoni Bay. One of the most popular strands, it stretches 4km from Li Cucutti to Porto Ainu. Boasting unbelievably blue crystalline waters that are shallow and, therefore, perfect for those visiting the beach with kids, as well as fine white sand, it is exactly what one imagines when picturing a perfect beach. It also has the necessary amenities including nearby cafés and restaurants, access for disabled guests, plenty of parking spaces, rentals of beach equipment, and more.

There are, however, many other gorgeous beaches to explore in the area including the wide beach of Li Cucutti with its lush green pine groves, the lovely but rarely crowded Baia Sant’Anna with its deeper waters and golden sand, Cala Ottiiolu with its beloved white shore, and more. All of these beaches are of a similar kind with clear waters in rich, deep hues, and sandy shores. Water sports are really popular here, with the shallow and clear waters making for perfect snorkelling conditions, different sections of the coast are popular for wind-surfing, and other areas offshore where there are interesting wrecks are a big draw for scuba divers.

The natural beauty of Budoni also cannot be overstated. Around the beaches are areas of Mediterranean brush, dunes, ponds, pine groves, and all sorts of flora and fauna. Bird species are particularly numerous and areas such as the Sant'Anna Ponds boast a whole host of different animals including tortoises, flamingos, ospreys, mackerel, mullet, and more.
