See The National Gallery Of Modern & Contemporary Art On Holiday In Rome

If one has booked a vacation rental in Rome, then they are likely interested in the ancient history of the city, the massive monuments, the Papal palaces full of Renaissance gems but more recent historic periods have also left their mark and wonderful attractions in the Eternal City. Take, for example, La Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, or the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art. Dedicated to nineteenth and twentieth century art, it is an extraordinary architectural gem that also houses the largest collection of paintings and sculptures from this period in Italy. Those interested in the early modern and modern periods of the history of art should definitely make a point to see the museum during their time on holiday in Rome and it also boasts some incredibly famous names an astounding works of art.

With around 1,100 works of art on display at any given time, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome has a large and impressive collection that is made up of some of the most important Italian names in this period including Antonio Canova, Lucio Fontana, and Amedeo Modigliani. It is also home to some household names among international artists of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Braque, Calder, Cézanne, Degas, Duchamp, Giacometti, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Monet, Jackson Pollock, Rodin, and Van Gogh. Temporary exhibitions also are regularly held as well as excellent thematic exhibitions that perfectly curate the collections and highlight fascinating holdings.

All of these extraordinary works – from drawings to paintings, mobiles dangling from the ceilings to sculptures on plinths – are all on display within the grand building which is a wonderful gem in its own right. Designed by the famous Italian architect Cesare Bazzani, it was between 1911 and 1915, and then later expanded by Bazzani in 1934 and again by the architects Diener & Diener in 2000.


So, while this gem may be a lesser-known art attraction in Rome for those who book a holiday rental in Rome and come to explore the city, it is definitely worth making time for!
