The gorgeous and dreamy historic town of Montepulciano in Tuscany known for its delicious wine gained international fame back in 2009 when it was chosen as a filming location for one of the movie adaptations of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight book series, New Moon. Fans worldwide were suddenly focused on this Tuscan gem and were were captivated by both the town's beauty and its newfound connection to the beloved franchise. So, if you love the movies and/or books and have always wanted to experience the allure of Montepulciano for yourself, then browse our villas in Montepulciano and plan a visit to this charming town...

Although the film depicted a fictionalised version of the town of Volterra, the scenes were actually shot in Montepulciano. The historic centre, nearby winding country roads, shots of the town’s narrow alleys, and more played key roles within the movie. They also clearly displayed the charms of this lovely town that is so steeped in history and is set within one of the most beautiful parts of the Tuscan countryside.
The indoor scenes featuring the formidable Volturi vampires, meanwhile, were filmed in notable historical buildings such as the Palazzo del Comune and the Cantina del Redi. The film's climactic scene, in which the protagonist, Bella Swan, races through a crowded piazza during an ancient (fictional) festival to save her beloved from self-destruction, was shot in the Piazza Grande and the entrance to the Palazzo del Comune. What you won’t find when you visit, however, is the fountain that was described in the book and featured in the film. This was actually constructed specifically for the movie and was a seven-meter-tall wooden and papier-mâché creation that was placed in the piazza for the scene. Tours are available to guide you to all of the exact filming locations within the town if you’re anxious about finding each of the spots but you can easily seek them out for yourself if you wish, as well.
