Casa Minerva, garden

Casa Minerva is a seriously pretty old stone building that is located right in the historic core of the charming Medieval city of Cortona, one of the loveliest towns in all of Tuscany. However, despite being in a historic building and surrounded by ancient structures, Casa Minerva has been carefully decorated and finished in recent years to create a wonderful property combining the best of old and new worlds under one roof. Those who are looking to enjoy all of the aesthetic delights and traditional touches of Tuscany and to be located right in the centre of all of the action of one of the region’s best destinations but who don’t want to miss out on modern conveniences and comforts, therefore, will find this to be a perfectly cosy gem. With air-conditioning throughout and some massive old fireplaces, the property is also ideally set up for optimal temperatures year round, whether you’re enjoying a break during the hottest months of the summer or if you’re after a winter getaway during the coldest time of the year.

Casa Minerva, kitchen

Available from €220 to €330 per night, Casa Minerva boasts two bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeping up to six guests comfortably. There is an open-plan living and kitchen/dining room that beautifully ties distinctive features of this historic property together with a clean, bright, and chic modern aesthetic. The walls and exposed-beam ceilings are painted in white, the furniture is simple and stylish but comfortable and inviting, the kitchen is sleek and minimalistic, cosy touches such as candles and rugs are added throughout, and elements like the impressive old fireplace are allowed to stand out and speak for themselves.

Casa Minerva, bedroom

The two bedrooms at Casa Minerva are similarly minimalistic but are also relaxing spaces with big beds covered in crisp sheets, high ceilings, and tasteful details. In particular, the master bedroom upstairs is a rather impressive space with a lovely en suite and some incredible features such as more of those charming exposed-beam ceilings, a big old leather Ottoman, a massive walk-in wardrobe, and stairs up to a smaller living room with a pull-out sofa bed.

However, the walled-in rear garden is perhaps the star of the show when it comes to this charming little property. Not only do the ground floor spaces open up out into the garden, giving a greater sense of light and room, but the grounds themselves have been expertly executed. There is a small but picturesque outdoor pool (unheated, open from the 1st of April to the 31st of October each year) against the stone surrounding walls to the back of the garden that looks like something plucked from an ancient Roman villa. While you may not be able to swim extensive laps in this pool, there is a lovely canopy that can be pulled out, making it an ideal space in which to relax on hot days with a drink. The space in which the pool is located, raised from the rest of the garden by a flight of steps, can be almost fully covered by the aforementioned canopy and also features a pretty, wicker sunbed, an outdoor sofa, and a little side table.

Down below, in the part of the garden onto which the kitchen opens, you can find a proper table for al fresco dining, covered over by a canopy that is also strung with little fairy lights, making this a lovely place to sit out with a glass of wine in the evenings. Next to this is a little barbecue. The garden, as a whole, has been perfectly finished to make the most of the space, with box hedges, pretty paths and stone stairs, climbing plants up the walls, flowers, green lawns, and lots of thoughtful touches.
