Discover The Best Free Beach To Visit On Vacation In Tuscany

La Lecciona
If you are interested in a sun holiday in Italy, then one of the best holiday destinations that you could possibly choose is the Tuscan Coast. Combining the unique foodie and cultural charms of the region with pretty seaside towns and picture-perfect beaches, a vacation and a villa on the Tuscan Coast ensures a perfect getaway by the sea in Italy full of fun and sun. An unfamiliar concept for some who have found a villa in Tuscany or a villa in Italy and are planning days on the beach is that many beaches in Italy have fees for their use. This is because these stretches of sand are usually well-kept and offer various facilities and amenities such as bathrooms, changing rooms, snack bars, showers, loungers, umbrellas and more. However, there are also some public beaches that you can use free of charge. Oftentimes these beaches are a little busier and don't have the same kind of services but if that doesn't bother you and you're looking to save a little money to spend on other parts of your vacation then they're just the thing! On the Tuscan Coast, in particular, these beaches are few and far between. In fact, one of the few remaining free beaches in Tuscany is the beach of La Lecciona.
La Lecciona is located in the incredibly pretty little town of Torre del Lago, the only hamlet in Viareggio. Nestled between a picturesque lake and the sea, and home to plenty of amazing historic properties and a marina well-known for its restaurants and pizzerias, the town is quite the looker and a lovely spot for a day-trip for tourists exploring the Tuscan Coast. Between Torre del Lago and Viareggio, there are some free beaches among the many fee-paying beaches in the area, one of the largest concentrations in the entire region, and La Lecciona is the most beloved of them all. It is also famously a rather gay-friendly beach with a section to the north of the road leading to Torre del Lago that is popular among nudists and the gay community. Those looking for a less clothing-optional free beach experience will find the other end of the beach perfectly suited to their needs.

A stunning natural gem and a Blue Flag-awarded shore that is fringed by rich Mediterranean flora and overlooked in part by the town's famous lush pine wood, this truly wonderful Tuscan beach boasts very soft sand and clear water that is shallow and the perfect temperature during the summer months. La Lecciona is also an incredibly large and a rather impressively wide beach, meaning that even on its busiest days it rarely ever feels overly or uncomfortably busy or full. Of course, if you do visit outside of the high season of July and August, you will readily find plenty of space. Visits for walks during the winter are also a great idea, while the weather in late spring, early summer, and early autumn will mean that you'll likely have warm enough weather to enjoy this gem with no crowds at all in sight. Generally peaceful and not touched at all by the commercialisation that plagues other parts of the area, this is the beach of choice of many locals and the crowd is, therefore, a pleasant mix of locals and tourists in the know.

Considered by many to be the best of all of the free beaches in Tuscany, La Lecciona is truly the perfect place for a day by the sea if you have found a villa on the Tuscan Coast and are exploring the area. Do remember, however, that you will need to bring your own snacks and anything else that you might want for a day at the beach as there are no services provided on-site, other than the occasional hawker selling various goods, drinks, ice-creams, coffee and more, that may or that may not turn up during your visit. Those planning a whole day on the beach will definitely need some sort of shade and some water and snacks, just in case. So, if you're looking for a perfect day on the beach while on holiday in Tuscany, look no further than the charmingly lovely and delightfully untouched La Lecciona.
