Experience Opera In The Romantic City Of Verona In 2017

Arena
Verona in Veneto is one of the a charming city, renowned for its beauty, ties to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and its summer opera season that takes place each year. This opera festival is the premier opera experience in Italy and is a must for music-lovers and romantics alike who have found a luxury villa in Veneto.
Verona has Roman origins and was an important part of the empire. Remains of the period dot the landscape in the form of rather fetching and picturesque ruins and buildings. The most memorable of these is the Arena, which was once home to gladiatorial fights, jousts, tournaments and nightly games but now plays host to the city's famous operas each summer and is the world's largest opera theater. Located in Piazza Brà, immediately inside the town wall, the Arena was built in the first century B.C. and is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in existence. It is surely one of the loveliest opera venues the world over and draws crowds of up to 14,000 for each performance and up to 700,000 each year from all over the globe. While Verona has been home to historic operatic productions for centuries the Verona Opera Festival did not come into being until 1913, when it was inaugurated to celebrate the centenary of composer Giuseppe Verdi's birth.

This year's opera season opens on June 23rd, with the first performance of Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi, in a new stage design directed by Arnaud Bernard, with sets by Alessandro Camera. The festival will continue until August 27th and over the course of it there will be multiple performances of five amazing opera titles, one concert, one special Gala Night and a ballet. Tickets can range from under twenty euro to a couple hundred euro, all depending on the performance, time and area one is sitting in. Dress-codes also vary depending on where one is sitting and need to be considered. For example, for the highest tier of tickets, attendees are expected to turn up in eveningwear, while in the second tier, one should wear occasionwear and those in the lowest tier should wear elegant to casual clothing. Tickets must be purchased online.
