Passo Tonale is a great, budget-(and beginner)-friendly ski resort in Italy located on a high mountain pass that links the regions of Trentino and Lombardy.
Its location means that you can find a vacation rental in Trentino or a vacation rental in Lombardy, giving you more options to choose from and the wiggle room to find the perfect villa from which to base yourself as you enjoy the winter sports that Italy has to offer. It's the best of both worlds!
The village is located at the foot of the slopes with a gondola, that was installed in 2015, and an efficient lift system that makes the glacier more readily accessible. These go from Passo Paradiso to the slopes of Passo Presena, which are mainly suited to beginners and intermediate skiiers, and also link the town to the slopes of Ponte di Legno and Temù, which offer something more interesting for more advanced skiers.

Those who aren't interested in skiing or snowboarding can take the same lifts to enjoy panoramic views of the Italian Alps and merely enjoy the rest of this lovely resort.
While there is something for everyone in the area, it really is a particularly family-friendly location and perfect choice of resort for kids and beginners as there are plenty of gentle open slopes and an absence of more proficient skiiers whizzing by dangerously.
There are two ski and snowboard schools and they have English-speaking instructors working there, with whom you can request to take classes.
The town itself is charming: a one street kind of place, largely made up of Alpine chalets with the basic amenities such as rental shops, ski schools, a few souvenir stores, some hotels, bars and restaurants.

While it isn't a buzzing metropolis, it has everything you need and there are plenty of other activities to try, such as visiting a spa at one of the hotels, going on a dog-sled excursion, cross-country skiing and all sorts of activities for kids. For a nice, family-friendly and inexpensive ski holiday, it is a perfect choice!
