Casina Vanvitelliana
Once you have found the perfect luxury villa in Campania and are planning what to see and do in the area, you might consider taking a break from busy itineraries of trying to see everything and take a breather by Fusaro Lake.

The lake is one of the most peaceful and stunning spots in the area and is a perfect little paradise that has gone unspoiled and untarnished by time and change.

Not only is it a destination for the nature lovers of the world but it is also a spot that will please culture vultures as there is an architectural and artistic gem on the lake that has gone on to inspire some of the most famous musicians, poets and artists of the world to create further works of art.

This gem is the Casina Vanvitelliana, or Royal Casino, a hunting residence that was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli and his son and collaborator, Carlo in 1782 for Ferdinand IV of Bourbon.

The lake, though barely a square kilometre in size, was already the favoured hunting and fishing ground of the king and this was the perfect location to build a casino to be used to entertain the guests of the royal family. It was also a place where the even common people could sometimes go for fun events as well.

Executed in the Rococo style, the decorative scheme was the work of the noted landscape painter, Jakob Philipp Hackert, and the whole elegant structure seems to emerge organically from the lake like some sort of flower. It is here that Mozart composed the famous opera "La Clemenza Di Tito" and many other artists and writers received inspiration.

The lake is famous for many other reasons, as well. It has volcanic origins and is part of a group of a craters that form an evocative crown in the Gulf of Pozzuoli. As a result, there are thermal waters, numerous natural Spas and mofettes in the area today. Due to the presence of fresh water springs, the lake produced high-quality oysters for decades, that were called the "Fruits of the gods". This custom is no longer alive but fishing with nets and for mussels continues. Finally, the lake also has legendary connections and is said to be where Cerberus was “echoing with his triple-throated howling, crouching monstrously in a cave…", according to The Aeneid.

With so much going for it, yet so much peace to be found there, Lake Fusaro is surely one of the most fascinating and pleasing bodies of water in Campania and Italy.
