Tirano in Lombardy
In 2008, a section of the Rhaetian railway, the line between Thusis and Tirano was added to the list of Italian UNESCO World Heritage Sites because of its historical and cultural importance to the area. This famous section is connected to the Italian railway network so it can be easily visited by tourists travelling from anywhere in Italy or via connected European railway lines.

Hop on board to see the breath taking sights it travels through, such as the summit of the Eastern Alps called Piz Bernina which stands at 2,253 metres above sea level! It passes through the Italian border at Campocologno at 553 metres above sea level before travelling further downhill to the small train station in Tirano.

The Swiss Rhaetian Railway line is famous for the sheer volume of stunning landscapes it treats its travellers to as it speeds through the countryside. This is a superb opportunity to see some of the superb sites of Northern Italy before crossing the border to Switzerland where the vast majority of this rail runs deeper into the country.

It would be a superb tourist experience indeed to simply travel along the Italian section if this highly awarded line for a few hours to soak in the surrounding scenery.
