Bolzano city
In the region of Trentino-Alto-Adige lies the wonderful city of Bolzano! This is a superb destination to visit that lies off the beaten track.

Bolzano represents a true insight of Italian life and culture which is truly lovely to experience. The main economy here is agriculture, wine production and ceramic craft making.

Tourists who decide to come here will be welcomed with a lovely climate on arrival.

They'll also have a lovely choice of villa rentals in Trentino Alto Adige close to Garda lake with beautiful views of the lake.

Start off your exciting day in Bolzano with a walk along the Via Portici, a mile long street in the historic centre full of porch fronted medieval buildings. This is now the best shopping district in the city so you can enjoy a few hours of exploring fashionable boutiques and designer shoe shops along your stroll here.
Otzi the Iceman
Bolzano has been given the nickname ‘Gateway to the Dolomites’ because of its close proximity to the giant mountain range. Tourists can embark on a whole range of thrilling mountain hikes, cycling trails and steep mountain climbing challenges if they feel like journeying closer to the clouds!

German is widely spoken in Bolzano and throughout the South Tyrol province of Trentino-Alto-Adige.

There is a remarkable archaeology museum here, home to the famous preserved remains of iceman ‘Ötzi’! This man lived about 3,300 BC and was buried under ice and snow after a tragic accident for thousands of years.

This freezing temperature almost perfectly preserved his body and gave experts a fantastic insight into what life was like at the time. He is the oldest preserved mummy in Europe and can be learned about in greater detail at a dedicated section of this museum.

Also worth a look around is the massive Runkelstein Castle, now a haven of sacred artworks. Entry costs only €8 and is truly a marvellous sight to behold, inside and out! Near the city also is Maretsch Castle, an ancient fortress now surrounded by vineyards. It’s open to visits every Tuesday.
