Begin your tour at the historic Piazza del Campo, an oval shaped piazza lined by beautiful historic buildings. Stroll around the ancient Palazzo Pubblico here or the nearby Santa Maria della Scala hospital. This hospital was one of the first hospitals in Europe and lies along the ancient pilgrim path, Via Francigena that runs through Siena on its journey to Rome.
Palio di Siena
If you’re here on the 2nd of July or the 16th of August then you’re in for the treat of witnessing the thrilling Palio di Siena. Piazza del Campo is covered in sand and converted into a horse-racing track where jockeys and their horses from different districts in Siena compete against each other for first place.

The competition is tough as it’s a bareback horse race with very few rules; the first horse to cross the finishing line is the winner, with or without its rider!

The atmosphere here is electric as huge crowds gather to enjoy the preceding medieval parade and afters feasts and music fills the streets of the city. Tourists would thoroughly enjoy being part of these thrilling events on these two special dates!
Dome of Siena's Duomo
Siena is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there’s little wonder why. It’s historic centre alone is a perfectly preserved example of medieval, gothic and Renaissance architecture and the city’s museums and art galleries beautifully showcase the talents of famous artists, sculptors and writers from all over Tuscany.

Tour the splendid cathedral of Siena and admire the mesmerising ‘Porta del Cielo’. There’s so much to do and see here in Siena that tourists would need at least a week to admire it thoroughly!
