It is quite a mountainous region that grows hillier towards the coastline. This contributes to the two defined climates that Friuli Venezia Giulia experiences throughout the year; in the lower rolling hills and coastline, the weather is mild and warm. In the mountains, the air is colder as it is forced upwards when it comes face to face with the regions tall peaks. This creates lots of clouds that eventually lead to rainfall in the area surrounding the mountainous area.
