Vesuvius And Pompeii

Vesuvius from the sea
Mount Vesuvius is a volcano that is best known for its eruption that completely buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum which were forgotten about until they were rediscovered in the 18th century and intensive excavations were done to uncover them.

While working on uncovering these fantastic lost cities, the remains of many, many people have been found who were buried along with Pompeii and Herculaneum during the time of the eruption. There are about 1044 cast moulds made from the impression of bodies in the ash of Pompeii and the remains of about 332 bodies removed from Herculaneum.
