Ischia - Monte Vico
Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is about 30 km from the city of Naples. The trapezoidal island is the largest of the Plegrean islands, and is a collection of six small communes.

The city is visited by thousands of tourists each year, especially for the natural thermal spas and volcanic mud found in the region. The locals can speak English and German very well for the benefit of the tourists.

The island was formed due to volcanic activity. However, the last eruption occurred in 1302 AD. The area was first inhabited during the Iron Age.  It was ruled by many kings including the Etruscans, until the Romans occupied it in 322 BC.
Ischia Port
Ischia is a popular tourist destination, welcoming up to 6 million visitors per year. The majority of tourists come from the Italian mainland, and from Germany. You can arrive from Naples on a ferry within one hour.

While many tourists visit the place for its beautiful locales and architecture, others come to enjoy the health benefits of the thermal spas and the volcanic mud. You can also visit the Aragonese Castle, which was built on a rock near the island to control enemy movements in the medieval era.

The ancient vineyards of Ischia offer wonderful views of the Naples bay along with chestnut trees, ferns, heather and wild flowers.

You can walk around the volcanic region and check out the crater of Fund Ferraro and Lava Arso, representing the last volcanic eruption on the island. You can also climb up Mount Epomeo. It will take an hour to reach the peak from which you can see spectacular views of the island and the surrounding areas.
