Todi, One Of The Greenest Towns In Italy!

View of Todi
Although Todi may be small, it has received many notable distinctions over the past several years. This includes being named as the most sustainable city by an architecture professor from the University of Kentucky, as well as being dubbed the world's most liveable city by the Italian press.

This hilltop town in Umbria is truly a sight to behold! If you decide to visit Todi on your travels, why not choose from a range of apartments and villas throughout the town and the surrounding area.

Todi has managed to reinvent itself over time, sitting at the top of a hill overlooking the river Tiber. This position affords it superb views, while also protecting the city over the years.
Todi Duomo and Piazza del Popolo
Architecture contained in the city centre is an interesting blend of different eras and styles. For example, you can visit the Piazza del Popolo, or People's Square, which contains many of Todi's most famous sights.

This plaza was built directly over ancient Roman cisterns, many of which remained in use up until just the last century. One of the main sights to see around this plaza is the Cathedral, which is a Gothic building erected over an ancient Roman temple.

What you can see now is what was rebuilt after a fire destroyed the original church in 1190. Visitors can take note of the fresco by Ferrau Faenzone, as well as a rose window added in the 16th century.
Todi Stradina Centro Storico
Further sights to explore include the Palazzo del Popolo, or Communal Palace. It's one of the oldest communal palaces that you'll find in Italy, and currently houses the city's excellent art gallery.

Several other quaint palazzos dot the streets of Todi, providing common spaces to gather for the friendly local people. These can be toured by visitors, including the Palazzo Vescovile, Capitano, and Priori.

If you want to truly appreciate the viewpoint afforded by this picturesque and sustainable city, it's worth going up for a visit at the Monastero delle Lucrezie, which offers a nice view of the town.

Although Todi is worth visiting throughout the year, hot air balloon enthusiasts will want to arrive in July for the International Hot Air Balloon Grand Prix, while the Todi Arts Festival takes over the city every September.
